Nigel Making Plans

Nigel Clough says he his squad building for the new campaign is 'right on schedule' and that he still expects to bring in new faces before the campaign kicks off in August.

The Rams have already secured the services of Russell Anderson, David Martin, Tomasz Cywka, Gareth Roberts, James Bailey and John Brayford during the close season.

However, this is not the end of the Club's business in the transfer market and the manager is keeping a close eye on his targets.

Nigel Clough said: "We are very happy with the business we have concluded already, particularly as we've got it done early.

"The squad is taking the shape we envisaged and planned, however, there are still some key positions to fill.

"We have made it clear that we are looking to bring a goal scorer to the Club and we have a number of players we are keeping close tabs on.

"The market is extremely slow at the moment and that is a factor in how we proceed.

"We have made enquiries about certain players and put our interest on the record with their clubs.

"But we are prepared to be patient and make sure we get the best deal for Derby County.

"What we won't do is just go out and get someone for the sake of it or someone who won't improve us.

"It pays to get the right man.

"Don't forget that it wasn't until the middle of July last year that we eventually signed Shaun Barker; he was worth the wait.

"The reality is that we are still ahead of the game and ahead of most, if not all, the club's in our division when it comes to recruitment."
