LIVERPOOL goalkeeper David Martin is set to join Derby County on a month's loan today.

The Rams have turned to the 24-year-old because first-choice keeper Stephen Bywater is struggling with a back injury and Saul Deeney is suspended this weekend after being sent off in Tuesday's defeat at Reading.

Martin, who stands 6ft 2in, could go straight into the side to face Doncaster Rovers at the Keepmoat Stadium.

The former England Youth international has not made a first-team appearance for Liverpool but has had loan spells at Accrington Stanley, Leicester City, Tranmere Rovers and Leeds United.

He started as a trainee at MK Dons and is the son of former West Ham United and England defender Alvin Martin.

Derby County have eased their goalkeeper crisis by recruiting Liverpool's David Martin.

The 24-year-old has answered Derby's SOS call by joining the Rams on a month's loan from Premier League outfit.

Derby lost Stephen Bywater to injury and Saul Deeney to suspension in Wednesday's Championship fixture at Reading, prompting a frantic search for a new shot-stopper in time for Saturday's game at Doncaster Rovers.

Rams manager Nigel Clough said: "We're delighted to have been able to land a goalkeeper of David's quality at such short notice.

"I would like to thank Liverpool for allowing David to join us; it has been a frantic few hours since Wednesday evening but we're pleased to have a solution now."

Martin progressed through the youth ranks at MK Dons before Liverpool swooped for his services in 2006 after impressive displays for both his club and the England youth sides.

He has gained valuable experience out on loan with Accrington Stanley, Leicester City, Tranmere Rovers and Leeds United over the course of the last two seasons.

Ironically, he is the second David Martin in the Rams squad alongside his namesake who is a midfielder.
