A jealous woman who killed her lover by poisoning his curry is facing a life sentence after being convicted of his murder.

Lakhvir Singh, 45, was said to have killed Lakhvinder "Lucky" Cheema, 39, because she could not bear the thought of his marriage to another woman.

He had been due to marry Gurjeet Choongh, 21, on Valentine's Day last year.

But on January 27, they both became violently ill after eating leftover curry which had been in the fridge of their home in Princes Road, Feltham, west London.

Within hours, Mr Cheema was dead and Miss Choongh was fighting for her life after being poisoned with Indian aconite.

Aconite, known as the Queen of Poisons, is one of the most deadly poisons but this was the first case in England since 1882.

Singh, of Southall, west London, was found guilty at the Old Bailey of murdering Mr Cheema and causing grievous bodily harm with intent to Ms Choongh. She was found not guilty of attempting to murder Ms Choongh.

The judge gave the jury, which had been considering its verdicts for four days, a majority direction in respect of a fourth charge, that Singh administered poison to Mr Cheema the month before.

i heard he fell into a korma due to a dodgy tikka :D

A jealous woman who laced her former lover's curry with poison has been given a life sentence for his murder.

Lakhvir Singh, 45, was told she would serve a minimum of 23 years after she was convicted on Wednesday of poisoning Lakhvinder "Lucky" Cheema and his fiancee Gurjeet Choongh.

Singh was driven to murder to stop her secret lover of 16 years marrying his young fiancee.

The jealous mother of three sneaked into the home of Mr Cheema and Miss Choongh and spiked a curry in the fridge with deadly Indian aconite - known as the Queen of Poisons.

Singh, of Southall, west London, showed no emotion as she was found guilty of murder. She was also found guilty of causing Miss Choongh grievous bodily harm with intent but was cleared of attempting to murder her and of administering poison to Mr Cheema in December 2008 at his home in Princes Road, Feltham, west London.

Sentencing her at the Old Bailey, Judge Paul Worsley told her: "You were not just a spurned lover, you did not simply explode in anger at your rejection. You set about a cold and calculating revenge."
