needles
Can anyone give me a bit of advice? I'm after some oak planks for a simple project at home, about 5 or 6 lengths of oak or similar. 8ft long, about 250mm wide, 3/4inch-ish thick. Got to be a nice sanded/planed smooth finish. It seems to be very pricey so I don't want hassle or to get burned...can anyone recommend a supplier?

No however liked their history and have a good returns policy if goods are damaged in transit. Also independent suppliers often give a better deal and advice than Jewson's
Boycie
B&Q not your 8ft you wanted mind. the only other place I can think of is Gregory's timber mill at Tansley. It may be rough sawn though.
FunkyRam
Have you considered new scaffold boards? About £10 each on ebay for 13ft. Recently done a worktop with them. Can use them for decking, flooring etc.
