Rangers striker Kris Boyd is facing a month on the sidelines after fracturing his eye socket in a freak accident.Boyd had to be substituted during the first half of the weekend's Old Firm win following a clash of heads with Celtic's Landry N'Guemo.

The injury was not thought to be too serious but when he blew his nose while attending an SFA coaching course on Monday, the 26-year-old had to be taken to hospital.

After examination, doctors revealed he may have fractured his eye socket.

If the blow is confirmed, the hitman will require surgery and could face four weeks out of action.

The injury comes as Boyd's current deal with Rangers approaches an end.

He has already entered the final season of his contract and will be able to begin negotiations to leave on a free transfer in three months.

Boyd is thought to be waiting for a new deal to be tabled, but it is likely he will have to accept a pay-cut if he wants to stay with the club.
