Wolverhampton Wanderers chief executive Jez Moxey has revealed Sam Vokes' proposed loan move to Derby County fell through late on transfer deadline day.

The Premier League side had agreed a deal with the Rams following the arrival of Austrian striker Stefan Maierhoferhttp://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer from Rapid Vienna.

Derby were keen to bring in Wales international Vokeshttp://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer after agreeing to sell Rob Hulsehttp://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer to Middlesbrough.

But Hulse's move to Boro collapsed, meaning that Vokes' proposed loan switch also fell through at the last minute.

"We weren't going to let Sam go unless we signed Stefan Maierhofer," Moxey said in the Birmingham Mail.

"Once that was done, we agreed a deal for Derby to take Sam for the season.

HHmmmm so is someone telling porkies then - Adam Pearson said they all sat down round the table - him, Hulse and Nigel and all agreed he should stay

The clean and decent version is that they accepted the bid for Hulse on the terms that he could go if he wanted, and then prepared Vokes as back-up just incase he decided to leave.

Obviously the other version is that the board accepted the bid and then wanted a cheap Loan in as a replacement.

Take your pick.
