Derby County's reserves kick off their Central League campaign this evening at Shrewsbury Town.

The game at the Prostar Stadium getting underway at 7pm, with defenders Shaun Barker and Dean Leacock are set to get vital match practice under their belts after injury while Ben Pringle, Saul Deeney and Arnaud Mendy are also likely to start the game.

Rams Coach Andy Garner is part of the staff who will be leading the reserves this season and he explained to [url=http://www.dcfc.co.uk/]dcfc.co.uk why the reserve team has returned this year.

He said: "We started the reserve side again because some of the players - especially the younger ones - weren't getting games so it is a case of getting them matches.

"They need to be playing football so this gives them the opportunity to get out there and show what they can do.

"We want the progression for them to be steady and it is important they play matches."

Garner also believes success in the Reserve League promotes a winning mentality throughout the club.

"No matter what level we're playing, whether it is cards, dominoes or football we want to win the game," said Garner.

"We hope that the mentality of the players involved is the same and of course we want to see them making progress with that."
