Fixture List

Does anyone know a place you can download the full fixture list for a iPhone so you have it in your calendar? Thanks.

Every year I write myself a GoogleAppEngine app which pulls the fixtures, and puts them into a Google Calendar which anyone can subscribe to. The calendar checks for updates every half hour so you get the scores updated into your calendar and you get to know about changes in upcoming fixtures - I also have an email alert for that to anyone who is interested. When I have posted this on here before I have got a bit of flak from people accusing me of posting viruses. To be fair they have not been rude or confrontational, just warned people to be wary.

Anyway, if you want to subscribe to a Google Calendar I'm happy to post the link - assuming I'm allowed to.

The only slight problem at the moment is that the place I et the fixture list from - Yahoo - has the dates wrong for a lot of the fixtures at the moment. I'm sure it will sort out in next few days, but if not I'll re-write the code to use a different source.

I thought they couldn't do that because it can't be copyrighted, as it's not unique content?

There was a test case between them and Yahoo. Yahoo won. Google finds:

Olswang acted for Stan James Plc, Stan James (Abingdon) Limited, Enetpulse Aps and Yahoo! UK Limited in a court case concerning intellectual property rights in football fixture lists prepared for the English and Scottish football leagues.

The litigation was commenced four years ago by the English and Scottish professional football leagues, their licensing agent, Football DataCo and its sub-contractor PA Sport.  Following the European Court of Justice's decision in March, the claimants conceded that they could not continue to assert intellectual property rights in the fixture lists.  This week, the case reached its final stage with the Court of Appeal issuing a sealed Order declaring that fixture lists are not protected by database copyright or database rights in the EU.

As a consequence, it is now no longer necessary to pay a licence fee to use or reproduce the fixture lists in the EU.

The Court of Appeal also ordered that Football DataCo, PA Sport and the Football League Limited to carry the following message on their respective websites for a month in order to dispel any public uncertainty as to the legal position:

"Following the decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union dated 1 March 2012 in Case C-604/10 Football Dataco Ltd v Yahoo! UK Ltd& Others [link to a copy of the Judgment], it has been determined that neither copyright nor sui generis database rights subsist in the EU in fixture lists for the English and Scottish football leagues."

Alternatively subscribe to this and it'll auto-update any fixture changes; http://subscriptions.thismonkey.com/fixtures/football/calendars/eng/2013/index.html#2

I'll stop spamming in a minute :-)

I used to use this but there were problems with it failing to synchronise under certain conditions. I can't recall what they were now, but I think you could often end up with duplicate events. I have an Android phone - may not be a problem for iPhones.
