Not sure who's advising Knighty but I personally don't see this as a good move for him. A link up with Liam Rosenior at Hull would be a better fit imho.

Doesn’t quite work like that though, does it?  They have to want him and pay the money, for him to have that choice.

I thought Bristol were skint/close to skint.  Is this spree there final pooh or bust attempt at getting into the Prem?

And yet here they are, spending money on two centre backs, signing another on a free transfer and rumoured to be bidding for Knight 🤷🏻‍♂️

Just offered a potential explanation, I don’t know the ins and outs of their accounts. Their owner is a billionaire so perhaps he’s found a way to get them out of the hole they were in.

Also they’ve moved on some high earners haven’t they? Perhaps with those wages off the bill and the way costs and ffp are looked at over a three year period perhaps they’re in an alright spot after all.

Think people are forgetting Bristol sold Semenyo for 10 million in the last few days of the Jan window.

1 We’ve been badly overspending, largely due to Lansdown delegating too much to Mark Ashton (now spending the owners money at Ipswich instead.)

2 Lansdown is worth £1bn+ so basically can afford to underwrite massive losses, but of course is constrained by FFP.

3 We are releasing many players on big money as they go OOC, or re-signing them on much reduced contracts. Replacements are being signed within a much lower budget and to reduce any resentment between players on very different wages.

4 Semenyo sold for £10m to Bournemouth. We’ll possibly sell Alex Scott for say £25m, but recruiting to date doesn’t seem to require that.

5 Nigel Pearson is getting a lot of credit for this. Outsiders look at our league position and can’t understand why he remains so popular, but the financial turnaround is at the heart of it.

Exactly how I'm looking at it. Roberts was loved by the fans, our ground Is 10 times better, I'd like to think our long term goal surpasses anything that Bristol can get close to, our facilities.. but something made him choose them over us. Was it really JUST championship football? If so, fair enough but I'm not sure.

I fear that we may lose players that PW planned/thought would stay and in return, doesn't have the resources to replace them in the capacity needed to be successful in the long run rather than just for getting out of this league.

I know it's a process that needs time to be criticised fairly, but sometimes if you look outside and you think it might rain, you take a coat... and I guess in this scenario, I've got my coat on 😅

We - Bristol City - also have a 2 year old £20M training centre. Probably on a par with yours. It’s best not to judge clubs on your vague memories from years ago. And our long term goals are no doubt just the same as yours. You may, or may not, get there first.

Secret society then - isn’t that a very boring way of going about things ? You come here and have a decent chat and fair enough but over there alternative conversation isn’t tolerated? We know Mr P likes to talk to himself and eventually believes what he is saying to himself in some confused Stockholm syndrome pattern.

I agree it’s a bit odd. If you join OTIB there is a busy transfer sub forum, but as a visitor it’s invisible and you’d wonder why Bristol City fans are ignoring transfer rumours.

It seems oddly paranoid to me. Rumours can’t be kept secret any more any more as they’re all over Twitter anyway. But we didn’t get to vote on it.

Of course there are double standards - read the name of the frigging forum.....

Season 3 Wtf GIF by The Simpsons

Can’t be doing with all the primary school playground name calling stuff myself. We’re all just adults who support different teams, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Of course, but all they have to do is match his current contract (likely to be £5k a week roughly) whereas Bristol's offer will no doubt be triple that amount. They would also hold his registration and would probably be able to get a decent fee for loaning him out - and his wages paid.

Premier League clubs need not worry about being 'lumbered' with relatively tiny (honestly, insignificant) contracts. What it does do is entitle them to compensation which is essentially free money to them - all things considered I would imagine it wouldn't be difficult for them to get half a million.

We (Bristol City) certainly won’t be trebling his pay. Our current plan is all about cutting the wage bill while maintaining the squad quality.

Nakhi Wells has decided to stay and taken a pay cut. Tomas Kalas is out of contract and was allegedly on £25K over the last 5 years but has been offered renewal at around (or below) £10K. And he’s an established Czech international.

And that 'anchor' Ploppypants and his idiotic followers from the Brizzel City forum!!!

Well thanks! Haven’t been on here for a while, but popped along this time to research Haydon Roberts who seems to be joining us.

Mr Popodopoulos is actually extremely into various clubs’ financial analysis and very interesting reading (mostly on OTIB). I wouldn’t take it personally that he concentrated on your late unlamented scoundrel for a while. He’s pretty objective and has moved on to other projects now.

Good to see we might have a new team to take part in the "Well, ACTUALLY" Derby.

Previous rivals have included Burnley and Middlesbrough.

Some spectacularly tedious one-upmanship regarding accounting, FFP and players' wages on twitter. There is no spreadsheet not worth highlighting, no obscure ITK account not worth quote tweeting in the quest to prove that well, actually, my club isn't as bad as yours.

Fantastic work everyone, keep it up. This is what the beautiful game is all about.

It’s really not surprising that people associated with clubs that try to stick to the rules get upset with clubs that bend or break every rule in the book. Gibson seems to get a lot of stick on here, but to outsiders he just looks like a good owner getting exasperated by some of the weasels he has to compete with.

Abba......no more interesting to me than The Spice Girls in their day, songs possibly better than the run of the mill chart stuff but can't think of a single song of their's I actually like. I also can't think of a film more awful than the few minutes of Mamma Mia I saw, so I'm thinking I'm a no for this one.

Hear, hear. Though to be fair, the ABBA guys had a great talent for tunes, which sadly they turned into awful music.
