Pole-axed

A COUNCIL has banned the Union flag from flying over its town hall  because barmy bureaucrats won’t let anyone climb 8ft up a ladder to reach the pole.

The union flag has been proudly flown for decades above the building to honour official occasions.

But health and safety fears mean the pole will remain bare for Armed Forces Day and the Queen’s birthday next month.

South Kesteven District Council, which maintains the town hall in Bourne, Lincs, says it is too RISKY to ask the site manager to climb a ladder and unfurl a flag.

Today outraged former soldiers condemned the “lily-livered†stance as an insult to the bravery of members of the services.
