DERBY County are looking to add to their squad by signing experienced Republic of Ireland international Kevin Kilbane.

The versatile Hull City player is close to joining the Rams on a six-month loan, the Derby Telegraph understands.

Kilbane can play on the left side of midfield or at left-back. He has made almost 600 senior appearances in his career, which started at Preston North End.

The 34-year-old has also played for West Bromwich Albion, Sunderland, Everton and Wigan Athletic.

He played more than 100 leagues games for West Brom, Sunderland and Everton.

Kilbane spent the second half of last season on loan at Huddersfield Town and his know-how helped the Terriers to reach the League One play-off final at Old Trafford, where they lost to Peterborough United.

He has won 110 caps and is second in the list of capped players for the Republic behind goalkeeper Shay Given.

His signing would take the number of new faces to have arrived at Derby since the end of last season to nine.

Derby's squad still looks short of at least three players – an experienced central midfielder, another striker and cover at full-back.

Kilbane would bring experience and he can drop back from midfield to full-back if needed.
