Leeds United made a late bid to take Derby County striker Liam Dickinson on loan but a deal could not be done before the transfer window closed.

However, a deal could be resurrected once the emergency loan window re-opens in a week’s time, on February 9.

Dickinson joined the Rams from Stockport County in the summer for £750,000 but is yet to make his senior debut.

He has already had spells on loan with Huddersfield Town and Blackpool this season.

On the Leed's official site they claim to have missed out on him by 14 minutes and the deal would of been till the end of the season.

Leeds United narrowly missed out on signing Derby County striker Liam Dickinson on loan until the end of the season.

The terms of the loan were agreed between the clubs and the player but despite the efforts of all the parties the documents did not reach the Football League until after the 5pm deadline. The forms were received at 5:14pm by the Football League.

Leeds United Chief Executive Shaun Harvey said: 'It is disappointing that the Football League stuck rigidly to the 5pm deadline when you take into account the exceptional circumstances that prevailed yesterday.

"The FA Premier League made arrangements for their clubs to register players after the deadline and if the Football League had adopted the same approach then Liam Dickinson would be a Leeds player until the end of the season."
