Conor Doyle has been called up for Ireland Under 21's - gets to go to Cyprus and everything. Good luck to the lad. Geoff Hendrick is on standby - not bad for someoen who qualifies for the under 19's still

Doyle Receives Ireland Call

Posted on: Sat 29 Jan 2011

Derby County's Conor Doyle has been named in the Republic of Ireland's under-21 squad for their friendly match with Cyprus next week.

The Texas-born 19-year-old attacker recently represented the USA under-20s against Canada in Florida and only returned from a training camp a fortnight ago.

He qualifies to play for Ireland through his Dublin-born father and has been named in Ireland's 19-man squad to face Cyprus at the GSZ Stadium in Larnaca on Wednesday 9th February 2011.

International rules state Doyle can play for both countries below full senior level, and in December he revealed he is yet to make a decision which country he will represent.

Doyle has made 10 first-team appearances for Derby this season in the npower Championship.

Fellow Derby midfielder Jeff Hendrick, who has impressed for the Ireland under-19s in recent months, is on standby for the under-21s.

Hendrick seems to be doing well for the Irish under-19s who have just qualified for the European Championship which will take place in late July

Doyle couldn't have hoped for this when he signed for us. It can only help his development having these games for Ireland and the USA- I bet there is a huge clash of styles between the 2 dressing rooms though. Wonder which he'll choose to play for if he gets the senior call up? I reckon USA- being as he is actually American. From what we have seen of him at Derby he still has a long way to go to become a quality player but this must bode well for his development and a pat on the back to management is required if he makes the step up. Fair play to Hendrick too, hope to see him step into the first team in the next few seasons

Anybody knows something about our first-year professionals. I mean age, positions and are they any good?

Looks like Aaron Cole is a striker. Alex Witham is a centre mid. But what about Chris Jones? Is he left-back?
