Absolutely right. My work refused for years to clear ice from the walkways around the entranceways, on the basis that if we started to clear it up and someone hurt themselves, we are accepting responsibility and therefore we'd be liable - where if we left it, its "act of god" - so we would allow customers to slip and hurt themselves rather than risk being sued for something that nobody has ever been sued before, ever. Apparently its a common view.

As far as I'm aware, if you clear ice away from a path, as long as it isn't more dangerous than when you started, you're in the clear.
