Day
Nigel Clough says it would take a “silly money bid†for Derby County to even think about selling Kris Commons. Clough’s first priority is to keep the Rams in the Championship but he already has one eye on next season. The Rams manager sees Commons and Rob Hulse as two of the four or five strikers he wants at the club. Commons was in fine form before picking up the calf injury that has seen him miss the last five matches. A run of four goals in six games helped Derby to victories over Coventry City and Blackpool in the League, and Nottingham Forest in an FA Cup fourth round replay at the City Ground. His performances will not have gone unnoticed by others and the 25-year-old Scottish international is being linked with Premier League clubs Newcastle United, Wigan Athletic and Hull City. There was interest in Commons during the January transfer window. Rob Hulse has scored 16 goals for the Rams this season and the striker could also attract attention in the summer. He is the club’s leading scorer and has hit nine goals since the turn of the year. But Derby will not welcome interest in two players they want to keep. “We will rebuff any interest as much as we can,†said Clough. "Like any club, if somebody comes in with silly money we have to look at it, but it would take silly money to get one of those sort of players away. "The way we are planning for next season, those two are certainly in our four or five strikers. "I’m not surprised if there is interest in Kris, given the form he was in before he got injured, but he seems happy here and I don’t see any reason why he should want to go. "It would take serious, serious money for us to let him go. "Clubs being linked with our players is only good for Derby County because it means they are playing well. “They are both scoring goals and it shows that going forward we are doing OK.†Great news from Cloughie and for the club, although we have to remember players have the power to leave the club if they wish. Hopefully Commons will stay loyal to the club for a couple of seasons and doesnt get brain washed by his agent, I'm sure there will be interest and bids for him in the summer if he comes back into the side and shows the same form before his injury.
