Derby County executive chairman Tom Glick is convinced the Rams are good enough to mount a promotion challenge via the Championship play-offs.

Nigel Clough's men beat Crystal Palace 5-0 on Saturday but are still only 19th with just two wins from eight matches.

But Glick told BBC Radio Derby: "We know we have a good squad capable of playing in the top half and challenging for the play-offs.

"We fully expect that this squad is good enough to do that."

He added: "This is not a team that will be in the relegation zone at the end of the season.

"What we need to do is have some urgency and get some results. We need to get results even if we don't play great. We need to take our chances and start winning games. And Glick said the Rams are not afraid of spending big on the right player.

Glick said the Rams spent "a great deal of money" to wrap up a season-long loan deal for striker Alberto Bueno, who scored twice against the Eagles.

He added: "We continue to look and continue to be prepared to invest.

"We haven't been able to land the targets we wanted to. But the commitment to fund loans and permanent signings is not an issue."
