Billy Davies says getting his Nottingham Forest side into the Championship play-offs would be the greatest achievement of his managerial career.

Davies took unfancied Derby into the Barclays Premier League in 2007 and got Preston to the play-off final in 2005, but insists finishing in the top six this season would top both.

Automatic promotion is now very unlikely for Forest, given second-placed West Bromwich’s 11-point lead, but a home win over Cardiff today would nearly secure Davies a play-off spot.

Promotion hopes: The Forest manager says promotion would beat his Derby days

He said: ‘If we get in the top six I certainly will be celebrating this success more than any other success in my career ... I’ll get bottles of champagne for the staff and players because it’ll be a wonderful achievement, bearing in mind what we’ve been through this season.’

Davies compared his plight to that of fellow Glaswegian Sir Alex Ferguson, saying "We are very similar, were losing key players...theres no doubt it has affected us."

Un believable
