Miles Addison went under the knife in America to cure his long-standing foot problem on Monday evening.

The England U21 international defender has seen his season plagued by the injury and flared up during two recent comeback attempts, resulting in the Rams opting to send him for surgery.

Addison underwent a surgical fixation of his navicular in his right foot on Monday, and was operated on by Dr Amol Saxena in San Francisco.

Dr Saxena is one of the leading specialists when it comes to this particular injury and reports back to Moor Farm have indicated the operation was a success.

"We have had positive reports from the USA that the operation has been successful," said Rams manager Nigel Clough.

"Miles will stay out there for another week to allow the surgeons to monitor the early part of the recovery and then he will be returning home.

"We are delighted that the procedure has gone well, however, neither Miles or ourselves are in any doubt that there is a long road ahead before we seen him back in a Derby County shirt.

"There is no specific time frame being put on his return; it's important that everything is done properly and methodically.

"Miles is an important asset for this Club and has a long career ahead of him. It would be foolish to jeopardise his long term future by being impatient.

"He also has a strong character and is not shy of hard work; there is no doubt he will be pushing himself hard to get back and return stronger than before."
