derbydan
Derby County's reserves drew 0-0 with Sheffield Wednesday in the totesport.com Central Division this afternoon. Paul Connolly, Jay McEveley, Miles Addison, Lee Croft, Lee Hendrie and Arnaud Mendy were all in the starting line-up at the Look Local Stadium, the home of Stockbridge Steels FC. Striker Chris Porter was amongst the substitutes and took part in the warm-up, but it was decided not to involve him in a game situation just yet. Wednesday named a strong side with Darren Purse, Mark Beevers, Francis Jeffers and Etienne Esajas all named in their starting XI. Ross Atkins was forced into a fine save early on to deny Dutch winger Esajas, while Derby's first effort came on 18 minutes when Callum Ball shot straight at O'Connell. Paul Connolly left the field just before the break after picking up what looked to be a hip injury and he was replaced by Luke Garton. Medi Abalimba wasted a good chance to give Derby the lead just before the interval but he dragged his effort wide after good work by Lee Croft. Addison made two vital interceptions to deny Jeffers and Modest goalscoring opportunities in the second half, while Atkins made a good save to deny Sean McAllister and Jeffers flashed the rebound wide. Derby almost took the lead just after the hour when Croft's stinging low drive forced O'Donnell into a save, and with the goal gaping from the rebound Mendy could only hit the post and the Owls managed to clear their lines. Henrik Ojamaa was denied at close range by O'Donnell as Derby dominated in the latter part of the game while Jeff Hendrick shot straight at O'Donnell with seven minutes left. Ryan Connolly cleared a Wednesday effort off the line with two minutes to go after a corner as both sides had to settle for a share of the spoils, although Hendrie could have won it in injury time for Derby with a curling effort from twenty-five yards which O'Connell turned away diving full-length to his left. Derby: Atkins, P Connolly (Garton42), McEveley (Hendrick 69), Abalimba, Addison (Keane 69), Mendy, Croft, Hendrie, Ball, Ojamaa, R Connolly. Subs Not Used: Severn, Porter
