Day Posted August 3, 2009 Share Posted August 3, 2009 Derby County boss Nigel Clough fears an Achilles injury will rule Giles Barnes out at the start of the season and is eager to strengthen his squad. Clough saw the Rams draw 2-2 with Premier League side Stoke on Saturday. And although Clough is happy with how pre-season has gone, the injury to midfielder Barnes has highlighted the need to bring in more new faces. "We'd like to bolster the squad and we've asked about a midfielder and defender," Clough told BBC Radio Derby. "We're still waiting for a decision from a couple of league clubs." Clough said he is uncertain about the severity of Barnes' injury but admitted the early signs were worrying. "Giles felt something in his Achilles. I think it was a combination of a kick and the way he fell," Clough said. "We'll wait and see what the medical people say but it doesn't look too good at the moment." Stephen Pearson and Arnaud Mendy grabbed the goals as the Rams twice came from behind to earn a draw against the Potters at Pride Park. Day Posted August 3, 2009 Author Share Posted August 3, 2009 In that case I would guess his Derby career is over, can't see how Cloughie can justify extending his contract with the amount of games he has played for us in the last 2-3 seasons.
