The Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Final on 24th May will be the first time goal line technology will be used in the world's original league football competition, The Football League has confirmed.

Goal line technology will be in use for all three Sky Bet Play-Off Finals across the bank holiday weekend. The Hawkeye Goal Decision System first tested at Wembley in 2012, uses cameras at set places around the stadium and in under a second, will send a signal to a special wrissausagech worn by the referee if the ball crosses the line.

The technology will be available to referees Lee Mason (Sky Bet Championship), David Coote (Sky Bet League 1) and Michael Naylor (Sky Bet League 2) after the state of the art Mitre Delta V12 match ball, that will be used at Wembley, was certified by FIFA for use with the Goal Decision System late last year.

Should the cameras be needed, replays will be available to supporters on the giant screens at Wembley and relayed to the millions watching the live TV coverage.

Football League Chief Operating Officer, Andy Williamson, said: "It will be another historic moment for The Football League when goal line technology is used in a Play-Off match for the first time.

"The Football League has long been a supporter of technology and innovation. Although it is not practical to provide it across all League grounds at the current time, when the technology is there we will always look to use it."
