Clough still keen to add to squad

Derby County boss Nigel Clough still hopes to bring in one or two more new faces to help preserve his side's Championship status for next season.

The Rams edged closer towards survival with a precious away point against Southampton on Tuesday.

But Clough told BBC Radio Derby: "We are still waiting for an answer on a player we enquired about this week.

"And if we get the opportunity we will bring one or two more in just to help us in those last 10 games."

Clough, whose side are now seven points clear of the drop zone following Tuesday's league programme, said his squad needs strengthening in nearly all positions.

"We have asked about a couple of players," he added.

"We are a bit short at the back, centre-forwards we are okay but that's the only department where we are I think."

Derby brought in midfielder John Eustace on loan from Watford in time to make his debut in the 1-1 draw against the Saints.

The Rams boss was delighted with the point but felt his side could easily have taken all three after creating a series of chances in a strong finish to the game.

But despite Eustace's arrival and Steve Davies' return from injury, Clough's side have been hit by a succession of injuries to key defensive and midfield players including Paul Green and Miles Addison who have both been ruled out for the rest of the season.
