I can’t be arsed to watch it again, but it was something like the average male employee age being 46 compared to the average female age being 41. That was supposed to account for a gender pay gap of about £5k, or whatever, due to payrises in the intervening years. It’s a meaningless statement unless you document what the actual pay increases have been.

No it’s not meaningless, it means there’s 5 years of career progression, and that was the BBC offering that information along with the length of service of each correspondent. It’s telling that in an effort to provide context for a contextless statistic you want to pick it apart as not being perfect. No sorry, not being perfect is ‘meaningless’. How meaningless then is the gender pay gap? And that was for people on TV who operate outside the increments of the bogstandard employees. Are you using this for your 1% stat? http://www.pressgazette.co.uk/bbc-offers-staff-1-pay-rise-with-lower-paid-employees-set-to-benefit-most/amp/
McRainy
He’s assuming a pay rise of £1k pa to account for the difference. On an average reporter’s salary of £36k that would be in excess of 2.5%. The actual pay increase over the last 5 years has only been 1%, which doesn’t account for the gender gap as he implies. McRainy
The point being that he doesn’t know anything, he’s just having a bit of a misogynistic rant. If you take that sort of thing as ‘evidence’ that’s up to you.
