Skysports.com understands Derby County defender Jordan Stewart is in talks with Sheffield United.

Stewart moved to Pride Park in 2008 from Watford but has since fallen out of favour under new Rams boss Nigel Clough.

Although a regular last season the 27-year-old has struggled for playing time this term and is ready to seek pastures new.

Sheffield boss Kevin Blackwell is keen to bolster his defensive options and has earmarked Stewart as a potential signing.

The Blades will look to push through a deal before the close of the transfer window at 5pm Tuesday.

No mention of Lee Hendrie coming the other way as they are saying on Derby Mad.

Sheffield United could be set to sign Jordan Stewart from Championship rivals Derby County.

Stewart, 27 would add much needed cover to a sparse Blades backline that recently lost Leigh Bromby. It leaves United with just six senior defenders, of which two are long term injury worries (Naysmith and Geary).

Stewart has played primarily as an attacking left back but could revert into a central role as his 6'0 frame ages.

With just 24 hours of the transfer window remaining, Kevin Blackwell is expected to make a move to bolster a squad which is stretched already by August 31st.

If this goes through I say we try and put a cheeky clause in that he has to play for them in central defence when we play them.
