Swansea City have revealed that Paulo Sousa has been offered the club's vacant managerial position.

The Swans are seeking a new head coach after Roberto Martinez left for Wigan Athletic on Monday.

Former Portugal international Sousa has been out of work since he parted company with Queens Park Rangers in April.

Sousa has verbally accepted the position at the Liberty Stadium and is set to sign a three-year contract.

Swans chairman Huw Jenkins told the club's official website: "Taking into account the development of the football club over the last two and a half years and the image we have portrayed as a footballing side, myself and the board of directors felt it was vital to continue along the same lines.

"It was felt Paulo Sousa is the right man to do this. He is young, bright, enthusiastic and a visionary with extensive knowledge and contacts not only throughout Europe, but world football."

The 38-year-old has returned to Portugal to discuss the move with his family and it is hoped he will be officially unveiled next week.
