Sun, sand, dust, charity and shandy.

I have been away from home for 25 days now, and having never been here before, life here is actually better than I expected. Most of the guys on the Squadron were talking of losing lots of weight whilst out here, but the food is so good that I am actually putting weight on (add to this the parcels of sweets I keep getting from my Mum & Wife).

I wanted to mention briefly a charity event that the Squadron is doing whilst we are here in Kandahar (link: http://www.bmycharity.com/2Sqn ) we are aiming as a squadron to complete over 100,000km in 100 days to raise money for a charity called 'Scotty's Little Soldiers'. The motto of this charity is 'When Daddy doesn't come marching home', so you can appreciate immediately who it supports. If you feel you can make a small donation, it will be gratefully received.

My routine is pretty simple; wake, eat, work, eat, sleep, repeat.

Because we have no real booze out here, I have started sampling from the few non-alcoholic beers, but they are either too sweet or taste like water, but I have found that they make a passable shandy. Yes, I am drinking shandy with alcohol free beer. It isn't quite Railway Porter or Father Mikes from the Brunswick, but it's refreshing.

Looking forward to the football season now, hopefully we can get a good start, but the last time I went away for 4 month (Falklands) was our 11pt season in the Prem. Fingers crossed I don't need to be in the country for us to avoid relegation. I'll be on matchday chat if I'm not at work, eating or asleep

If anyone fancies writing a letter to me (you can write any old ******** on it, it'll just be nice to get a letter that'll brighten my day and keep me entertained) or for anyone that has any old magazines lying around that you no longer want and you can find a shoebox sized box, you can send free parcels to me that weigh less than 2kg, I have already given my address to Daveo, I'll pass it on to SteveBrummie as well as I didn't want to post it on a forum (don't send , I'll get in trouble - lol). Don't go out and get new magazines, as we get a lot of new Nuts, Zoo, FHM etc sent out to other people that get passed around, but older magazines would be great.
