not being around at the start of the Gregorian Calendar i wouldn't know whether they started at 0 or 1...

They may well have started at zero as "the year of our lord" without any numbering, followed by "the year of our lord 1" (or Plus 1) thus keeping it in line with jesus' age...

They could have started at 32 or whatever age Jesus was when he died...

but since its all based on a dead Jew that the Romans felt guilty for killing i don't suppose it really matters...
