Green gives the Rams an injury boost

PAUL Green has handed Derby County a boost ahead of Saturday's Championship clash against Sheffield United.

Green (pictured below) trained for the first time in three weeks yesterday after being troubled by a bruised foot.

The midfielder had been feeling some discomfort in the foot he broke last season.

He has been nursed through the last few weeks and has needed pain-killing injections to play.

His only appearances since the defeat by Ssausagehorpe United have been as a substitute.

He played 23 minutes at Blackpool, five minutes in the home victory over Plymouth and 11 minutes against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

"That was the first training session he has joined in. He was fine – not particularly good – but fine!" smiled manager Nigel Clough.

"For the last three weeks he has been playing games but not training.

"It is a bonus he is back and in contention. It's good to see him back and hopefully we can get him fit enough to start a game with no injections or anything like that.

"That is really the reason why he trained early in the week, so we can see if there is any reaction in the next few days."

Steve Davies is still a week or two away from being fit.

The forward damaged his ankle in the home game against Plymouth.

"We are probably looking to the Crystal Palace game for him, something like that, although there is no timescale on a return," said Clough.

Derby have back-to-back home games against Sheffield United and then Barnsley on Tuesday before they travel to take on Palace at Selhurst Park the following Saturday.
