Giles Barnes is expected to return to Derby County following his loan spell with Fulham.

Barnes has struggled with injury since his move to Craven Cottage and has not made a first-team appearance for Roy Hodgson’s side.

He has been out with an Achilles problem and underwent minor surgery yesterday, ruling him out of the final weekend of the Premier League season.

Hodgson has previously stated that a permanent move for the 20-year-old would be a risk due to his lack of action and it looks unlikely the Cottagers will follow up their interest.

Barnes could still leave Derby over the summer, though, and Birmingham City have been linked with the attacking midfielder.

Rams chairman of football Adam Pearson said: “It doesn’t appear that a deal for Giles with Fulham will get concluded but he has expressed a desire to play Premier League football, so we will have to see what happens.â€Â

Newly-promoted Birmingham have also been linked with a move for Derby’s Kris Commons.

Why would Commons want to move to Brum ?

I have to agree with them, he showed how loyal he is by leaving Forest for Derby. I would love him to stay don't get me wrong but if they put a official offer in I think he would be asking to talk to them.

No but you can see where they are coming from, if Miles Addison was at Derby for say 5 or 6 years and left to join Forest we would be banging on the same as they are.

It's Forests fault for not tying him down sooner but at the end of the day you shouldn't really join your rivals after so long at a club.

Here is some 'gossip' of one of the Birmingham boards.

I still don't blame him for leaving - they should of tied the deal down earlier - he was no judas - he did the right thing - if he leaves us now tho he will be a judas

They can have Barnes.Overrated ego maniac,Commons must stay.Derby must do whatever possible to keep him.I think that he would go to a prem club given the chance, and to be honest I wouldnt blame him.Its his job and he will get paid more and he is the only prem quality player we have.Really hope he stays though
