Saw on the SSN ticker this morning that London are considering bidding for the 2024 Olympic Games now. No chance!

1) No chance

2) I wouldn't want it

Part of the overwhelming enthusiasm that these games generated was down to the 'once in a lifetime' appeal - I wouldn't want the experience of the last fortnight devalued by having it again so soon.

I'd vote for Farah for prime minister. Awesome.

Was it a good game too ladyram?

It wasn't a bad game Alpha, Japan couldn't buy a goal though. They got very twitchy in the 2nd half, diving about for no reason in particular except to win undeserved free kicks, tho' the Japanese goalie let 2 in, he did make a couple of great saves and was let down a bit by his defenders. Bit of a stinker match for Japan overall, especially when they had a goal disallowed with about 20 minutes left.

We wondered what was going off when there was a loud musical note belted over the sound system - it turned out there was a sub coming on and that's how they decided to announce it, along with 'SUBSTITUTION' in physcedelic pink on the big screen. I s'pose it had to be spectacular, to fit the occassion.

Imagine that happening at PP tho? I think it would be disliked more than the guy with his ETS tyres & exhausts... 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

I'd say go for it.

With the current economic climate I doubt many countries would want or be able to afford to put it on again.

Infrastructure in place already

A generation inspired and the games again in 10 years to keep the interest alive

If nothing else going through the bid process would keep the Olympics in the news for a few years.

The French. Cheese eating surrender monkeys who enjoy the occassional glass of sour grapes. I'm surprised green doesn't feature as a prominent colour on their National flag.

They're only embarassing themselves when the rest of the world know how well Britain presented itself and the games. Let them wallow in their own sausageishness. Pillocks.

It's all De Gaulle's fault.

Before the second WW, Britain and France were about as close as any two nations could ever be. Sadly, two things then changed this;

1) France surrendered

2) We didn't

They've never gotten over that.

Why do people dislike France?

You won't find one of him in front of Blackpool Tower......

M. Eiffel does make exceedingly fine towers!

Les pauvres francaises! Imagine seeing in Anglais win the tour fe France!

And then all those cycle medals GB won!

Talking of De Gaulle.

harold Wilson (ran England for a while) was on a state visit to France and said to Le President (General Charles de Gaulle at that time) after a joint conference

Harold... Ah mon Dieu, que je suis fatigue (with an acute accent, or rather, a bad one)

De Gaulle.... (with a good English accent, having spent so much time here in 1940-45) Ah Harold, in private you can address me as mon General!)

(Apocryphal but likely!)

Genuine quote fron De Gaulle.

How can anyone govern a nation that has two hundred and forty-six* different kinds of cheese?

(*I thought it was 270, probably is by now. 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> )

(Good point, great cheeses..... especially Roquefort!)

Too much triggers my migraine, but it's well worth it! 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wub' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

De Gaulle - I've never forgiven Edward Fox for missing....... 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/angry' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Not just Ed Fox either Mr Higgins!

On this day in 1944, French General Charles de Gaulle enters Paris, which had formally been liberated the day before. As he entered the Place de l'Hotel, French collaborationists took a few sniper shots at him. "There are many moments that go beyond each of our poor little lives," he was quoted at the time. "Paris outraged! Paris broken! Paris martyrized! But Paris liberated!"

For de Gaulle, the liberation of Paris was the end of a long history of fighting Germans. He sustained multiple injuries fighting at Verdun in [url=http://www.history.com/topics/world-war-i]World War I. He escaped German POW camps five times, only to be recaptured each time. (At 6 feet, 4 inches tall, it was hard for de Gaulle to be inconspicuous.)

Like Churchill, cometh the hour, cometh the man!
