Derby the latest to be linked with bid for Jones

DERBY County are ready to join Nottingham Forest in the race to sign Hibernian skipper Rob Jones this summer.

The towering defender has a year remaining on his contract at Easter Road but, having expressed a desire to return to England with his family, could be allowed to leave at the right price.

Forest manager Billy Davies and Colchester United counter

part Paul Lambert both failed in bids to land Jones in January, with Davies said to be lining up a possible £1 million offer in the close season after watching the 29-year-old at the weekend.

However, Derby manager Nigel Clough is also understood to be an admirer of the 6ft 7in player and could follow up his interest in the coming weeks.

Jones turned in two superb displays in Hibs' back-to-back draws with the Old Firm in the past week, and followed Sunday's 0-0 draw with Celtic by throwing his shirt into the crowd in what was viewed by many fans as a parting gift from his final match at Easter Road.

Jones' agent, Gary Gill, last night confessed his client was attracting plenty of suitors south of the border and hinted Sunday's clash with Aberdeen could prove to be his last for the club.

He said: "There is a lot of interest in Rob Jones, not just from Nottingham Forest. A lot of English clubs have shown an interest in him, which is not surprising because he has been Hibs' player of the year this season.

"Teams from the Championship and the better ones from League One are keen. Rob has never hidden the fact that he's interested in going back to England one day. That's well chronicled from January when Forest were interested in Rob. I can't speak on behalf of Hibs but there is possibly the potential there this summer for Rob to move on."

A little rumour is posted in a Scottish paper and they lose there temper, tut tut. If what they say is true and Forest are this big club who are going places they shouldn't worry about little old Derby being interested in Jones............should they?

Baggies join hunt for Jones

West Bromwich Albion have joined Nottingham Forest and Derby County in the hunt for Hibs captain Rob Jones, according to his agent.

Forest boss Billy Davies is lining up an improved £1million bid for the 29-year-old after his impressive display against Celtic last weekend, while Derby manager Nigel Clough is also reported to be interested in the highly-rated defender.

It would now seem West Brom boss Tony Mowbray is planning a raid on the club he managed between 2004 to 2006 as he looks to rebuild his Baggies side following their relegation from the Premier League.

Jones' agent Gary Gill claims there are a number of clubs monitoring his situation and says the player is keen on a move to England.

"A lot of clubs have shown an interest," said Gill. "Championship teams and the better ones from League One are keen.

"Rob has never hidden the fact he's interested in going back to England.

"There is potential there this summer for Rob to move on bit the fact he has a year left on his contract will have to be reflected in his fee."

The agent of Rob Jones has told clubs interested in him must up their offers if they are serious about signing the defender.

The Hibernian star is widely reported to want a return to England, with Bristol City, Derby County and Nottingham Forest credited with interest.

But Gary Gill has told clubs they will need to increase their bid if they are to tempt Hibernian to sell.

“A lot of clubs have shown an interest – Championship teams and the better ones from League One are keen,†Gill said in The Evening News.

“Rob has never hidden the fact he's interested in going back to England.

“There is potential there this summer for Rob to move on, but the fact he has a year left on his contract will have to be reflected in his fee.â€Â

Guess that rules us out now then !
