I get this every three months or so, I also used to get gout which was very similar but ends up with a massively painful big toe, I now just get on with the pain, sometimes it lasts for 24 hours but more often than not it lasts or a week, so painful you can't walk on it, feels like a badly sprained ankle / foot but no swelling or bruising, gout is caused by a build up of crystals in the blood from to much euric acid.

Just take strong pain killers and wait for it to pass

I have had something similar with no bruising or swelling. Went docs then to the hospital physio, it was a weak calf muscles. Which cause tendon and nerve pain further down the line ie the foot. The right choice of footwear can make a difference, a lot of modern trainers don't support the foot very well

SillyBilly

Does sound like tendinitis which is common amongst people who generally move. May rule Daveo out. I've had it in my left ankle and couldn't walk for 2 days.
