Glasgow Rangers - The End

Here's a thought though.

Rumours abound that Forest are quickly running out of money - the Doughty estate wan't put any more in.

We all know about the takeover rumours, but as yet nothing has happened. It seems that Forest will either be taken over (or be being financed by the new owners whilst the final stages of the takeover go through) or be in administration by early July. As they don't own the ground, Forest have very little in the way of assets so all any new buyer would essentially be buying is the league registration. Consequently, Rangers could take over Forest and be in a higher division than if they bought Bury and probably get the club cheaper.

And it would be so much easier. No ground to sell, hardly any fanbase to worry about and two stars to add to the Rangers shirt.

I wonder if Rangers could play their first team in the English Championship and their reserves in the Scottish fourth tier?

Why oh why didn't Kris Commons choose Rangers?, no wage and not playing any football, or not even knowing where he's playing football, yeah why oh why didn't Kris Commons choose Rangers?, I suppose the greedy over rated twerp got the still receiving a wage bit right! I suppose Celtic can be thankful they nearly got about a season out of him, before he opted for more pies and lies and to keep his lardy behind stuck on the bench or on the sick bed.

Rangers: Steven Naismith & Steven Whittaker oppose newco transfer

Steven Naismith and Steven Whittaker have lodged objections to their transfer from the old Rangers Football Club to the newco.

The Scotland internationals now claim to be free agents, having issued statements through their lawyers.

But the Charles Green consortium that bought Rangers' assets say they will take legal action to block the moves.

Green said his company would "seek damages for breach of contract and for inducement to break contracts".

The announcement from Naismith and Whittaker came after Sone Aluko and Rhys McCabe said they too were choosing not to switch to the new company.

"It has been an extremely difficult decision to make but I believe it is the right decision," said forward Naismith.

http://local.stv.tv/glasgow/107837-rangers-crisis-crown-launches-criminal-investigation-into-whyte-takeover/

A criminal investigation has been launched into Craig Whyte’s takeover of Rangers last May.

On Monday the Crown Office confirmed its investigation into alleged criminality follows a "preliminary police examination of information" handed to them by Duff and Phelps administrators.

Mr Whyte purchased an 85% stake in Rangers from Sir David Murray for £1 in May 2011.

He used a £25.3m deal with London firm Ticketus for future season ticket sales to effectively fund his takeover through wiping out the club's £18m debt to Lloyds Banking Group.

In a statement, the Crown confirmed the investigation was now under way after Strathclyde Police carried out enquiries into information handed to them by the administrators of Rangers FC plc. Duff and Phelps are due to be replaced in their role in the coming weeks by independent insolvency firm BDO, which will liquidate the club after being chosen by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

The Crown stated: "The investigation into alleged criminality follows a preliminary police examination of information passed to them in February this year by the club administrators.

"The Procurator Fiscal for the West of Scotland will now work with Strathclyde Police to fully investigate the acquisition and financial management of Rangers Football Club and any related reports of alleged criminality during that process."

Mr Whyte has denied he took part in any criminality in his takeover and subsequent management of Rangers. When he appointed the administrators on February 14, having made a move to do so at the Court of Session the previous day, the club was £14m in debt to HMRC having not paid any PAYE or VAT in the previous nine months.

The businessman also confirmed last year that he had previously been banned from holding a company directorship for seven years in 2000. He threatened to sue the BBC over a documentary last October that revealed the ban.

Mr Whyte was earlier this year banned for life from holding a position in Scottish football and was also fined £200,000 over various rule breaches, including bringing the game into disrepute. He claimed the punishment procedure carried out by the Scottish FA was a "farce" and that he would not pay the fine.

Private Eye have been on about Whyte's dodgy dealings since before he took over Rangers. Any "fit and proper person" check would have uncovered all sorts of financial shenanigans in his murky past.

I followed it as well with PE, i was amazed that this was allowed to go through.

It now looks like they will be playing in the 2nd tier next season as well

Looks like Division 3 football for Rangers

Aberdeen and St Johnstone have joined Inverness in confirming they intend to reject Rangers' application to join the Scottish Premier League.

That would mean Rangershttp://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer starting life as a newco outside the top flight of Scottish football.

Dundee United,http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer Heartshttp://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer and Hibernianhttp://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer have already said they will not back the inclusion of the Gers in the top flight when the clubs vote at the league AGM in early July.

Motherwellhttp://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer are also set to ballot fans at the end of June but rejection by five clubs would be enough to deny Charles Green's club entry to the SPL.

A statement from Inverness read: "Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC has completed their consultation exercise and consideration of its options in relation to the upcoming SPL vote on July 4th.

"The club will be voting 'no' to an application for SPL entry from a new company which has acquired the assets of Rangers following the liquidation of the previous company.

"Having considered all the options and following a very productive discussion with the supporters trust board, members the ICTFC directors are unanimous in their decision."

Aberdeenhttp://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer chairman Stewart Milne said in a separate statement: "Traditionally we have preferred not to make public our voting intentions, but in light of the level of interest and the fact other clubs have chosen to show their hand, on this occasion I can confirm it is our intention to oppose readmission to the SPL for any Rangers newco."

Serious impact

St Johnstone soon added their weight to the opposition to Green's bid despite warning of a "serious impact" on the club's finances.

A statement read: "Notwithstanding the potentially damaging financial implications, the board believes that sporting integrity should not be sacrificed in favour of economic expediency.

"Over the last few weeks there has been a mounting groundswell of opinion amongst our fans which has clearly shown that the vast majority of our supporters would not favour an application by newco Rangers to the SPL. This has simply reaffirmed the board's position.

"It is important that a clear and unambiguous message goes out from the custodians of Scottish football that this sort of scenario should never be allowed to happen again.

"As a result, St Johnstone Football Club will not support an application by newco Rangers to join the SPL.

"We would urge all St Johnstone fans to get behind the club and offer their support in the challenging season which lies ahead."

Delay takeover

Meanwhile, the financial impact could delay a St Mirren takeover until next summer.

The 10,000 Hours community ownership group, who have received financial pledges from more than 1,000 fans, had been hoping to assume control next week but the deal has already been postponed.

Members of the group have been asked whether they would be prepared to support the club with increased donations should commercial revenues fall.

The consultation document said: "Depending on the funding required, this may delay the purchase for a year with your monthly contribution going towards helping the club directly while helping to maintain the integrity of Scottish football."

precisely - can't see the point in national FAs if clubs are allowed to play wherever they choose - Berwick may be a special case as the town has moved backwards and forwards across the border a few times, but I'd kick the Welsh teams out of the English leagues as well....

When the league started it was for English and Welsh teams. Cardiff, Wrexham and Swansea were the only Welsh team about. That's my understanding of it anyway.

What's absolutely ridiculous is that we have 4 different Football Associations in one country. Texas doesn't have it's own FA or national team. Why don't we compete as the UK in tournaments? That's what made matters complex.

It would be messy if Rangers joined our league and then Scotland broke away from the Union though. Then they really would be a foreign team.

Duracell - we are not and never will be one country. We are the united Kingdom, deprecate countries that have united.

In every instance we're recognised as the UK or Great Britain. We play as Britain in every other sport. Britain declares war, not England. We have British pounds. Same head of state. Same passports.

I'm very proud to be part of the English nation and yes, we are united countries but when we united we accept that we are essentially the same nation, at least to other countries.

In my opinion there should be a permanent Team GB football team and one league system for Britain.

As for Wales, it's not a nation at all. It's a principality. I think it's great the Welsh have a sense of national pride, they should keep that, but it makes a mockery of national anthems when they don't sing their national anthem.

I doubt they'll have to play in Division 3 because the SFA will probably bail them out somehow.

However if they did it would be a very meaningful message to football that silly spending is unfair and unsustainable. It's about time this happened.

We are a kinngdom of four countries

Rugby still play as four nations - in both codes

Athletics play as four nations in the commonwealth games.

Are there any other countries in the world that are split beyond their governance when it comes to competitive sport? I can't think of any other than our home nations.

Also I often wonder how Catalonia would do if they competed in football as an independent nation. Considering they have Puyol, Pique, Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta and Fabregas I don't think it would be too shabby.
