MrsRam
St. Patricks is in Ireland I think. They certainly make more of it than we do. ETA; Looks like they both are.
MrsRam
Saint Patrick's Day is a public holiday in the Republic of Ireland,[9] Northern Ireland,[ In 2006, the Scottish Parliament designated St Andrew's Day as an official bank holiday. uttoxram75
It'll never be a bank holiday because its too close to Easter and the May/Whit bank holidays. It'd cost business too much. We should have picked a saint whose day is in October/November!
lyndsey
i'd change mayday myself why can't we have Julyday or Febday??
uttoxram75
Its not a matter of changing one. We are owed one (we have fewer bank hols than most euro countries), there has been talk in the past of having a Trafalgar day (Oct 21st) as a new bank holiday. MuespachRam
Of course it should be a bank holiday, but it never will be. I always take the day off work and have a little celebration all of my own. As for St Patricks day and St Andrews day etc, I dispise everythign about them, and would rather have my teeth pulled out than have a pint of that black sludge they serve......just ask my wife....I met her in an Irish bar on St Patricks day....surely that is a sign that it is evil...? haha
McRamFan
St George, patron saint to 18 countries, and never had been to most including ours, we need a new saint, and a bank holiday.

I'll be toasting my Englishness today as I do too every year. Happy St Georges folks.

We'd have to change our flag then, its not called Saint George's cross for nothing.

There is a little more to it that just the name: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_George%27s_Cross We wouldn't have to change the flag, however I doubt the saint would be changed either, so we are stuck with it.
