nfb
How come only a year? If did say max 2, i cant answer for others, but for me i hope the club is still looking upwards ? GR is 34,whilst a top player with us, i cant see him doing it at 37..... As for JB,again, i cant see him getting better at 27,he's worked with NC for years and i would think that NC has made him as good as he can, if we are looking up, he will always be a 'squad player' for me, i also am not a fan of older players getting long contracts, i think it makes sense for younger ones who are still developing and show real promise tho, for few reasons. But thats just my opinion.
sage
I'd give Buxton two years and Roberts one year witha further one year option in our favour.
Rampant Rob
I don't think anyone would have wanted Buxton to be given a contract 6 months ago. Funny how times change.
EastKentRam
Eh Probably both worth new contracts but then hopefully both are just back up players next season.
bcnram
I don't think anyone would have wanted Buxton to be given a contract 6 months ago. Funny how times change. I can't think of any time when he has let Derby down. Why wouldn't we want to give him a new contract now or six months ago?
Rampant Rob
I can't think of any time when he has let Derby down. Why wouldn't we want to give him a new contract now or six months ago? The general consensus was that he was not good enough for this level and was always injured.
bcnram
The general consensus was that he was not good enough for this level and was always injured. I am not convinced about how general that view was. When do you feel that he has let the club down?
uttoxram75
He was seen as a Nigel signing at a time when we were getting rid of higher quality players. As well as he has done for us, Nigel would never have signed him if he had money to spend. Not knocking Jake here, he's a great club man who will put his body on the line for the cause, he's actually not bad either! The point is, when loads were slagging Clough off for signing lower/non league players he really had no choice. He had to get a few dirt cheap players in as he knew there was no money. However much Jake is getting, he earns every penny. Top man.
GboroRam
Funny how all those people who were criticising him before he got the winner against Forest have disappeared?
uttoxram75
That's the point I was trying to make. They weren't slagging him off because of his ability, it was because Clough signed him from Burton. If he'd have come from a prem teams reserves it'd be ok.
trekkie_ram
I have no doubt he'll always be a squad player. But given the obvious financial implications, I'd rather have him on £2k/week until he retires or we get promoted (£2k/week is a baseless guess before I get jumped on), then someone marginally better on £5k/week. Although I would not be against us getting a season long loan to cover for Shaun Barker. And we'll have to wait and see whether Gareth Roberts can perform at this level in 2014/15, I left my crystal ball in my other pants.
