sage
When we were losing lots of money, we had players on high wages. They have gone now.
ramblur
No I doubt it. Do you think Metgod has sat down with the accounts of all 24 Championship clubs and calculated wages budgets to justify his comments? Not when he can talk to other managers, who all know their own budgets. In view of your first comment,do you think Metgod is telling porkies?Do you think he was telling porkies when he said some time ago (before the current round of cuts) that they'd cut the wage bill they inherited by half (a wage bill that AA disclosed at £15.5m)? I would be surprised if this were the sort thing managers discussed with each other. Not sure I have ever accused Metgod of telling porkies on any account, just more that what he was said being a guess rather than based on pure fact. Well,we'll just have to beg to differ on the first point. I never said you'd ever accused Metgod of telling porkies, just asked you if you thought he was. Also Green's wages will be a lot less than now(or he'll be gone) so we may well start next season with one of the lowest player wage bills in the league (depending on who comes up). The other point being that the club isn't disclosing players' wages,so they're hardly likely to disclose same to someone whose findings would be visible to all. G STAR RAM
Just realised that the wages quoted in this article on total wages, not just players wages. Taking into account the fact that our non playing staffing numbers are so high, you could all be right and we may actually have the lowest players wage bill in the league! BondJovi
Well that interview didn't lift my spirits towards next season. I think next season may well be a case of trying to keep this squad together and hoping the same players have a better year. Perhaps a few new faces but I would not get hopes up. Metgod certainly didn't sell me next season either!
Cisse
I'm starting to wonder if I should skip my annual trip to Derby and start considering other options to spend my money to. Perhaps I should go to Kansas, they seem to have good spirits in their stadium.

Our academy will employ more staff than most others, but what other evidence do you have? Don't have evidence but take a look at the staffing numbers in the accounts. If the figures quoted by Ramblur/Metgod are correct then the non playing staff seem to make up a high percentage of our wages and this may explain why we have admin costs of circa £7.5million, something that Ramblur and myself both agree is very high. What evidence do you have that our academy employs more staff than most others?

It is bigger than the vast majority of other Championship clubs, with more facilities. It is not unreasonable to suggest that would lead to a higher than average Academy workforce. So just to summarise...you have no evidence either other than you guessing that we have more facilities. If the figures quoted by Metgod are correct then it would not be unreasonable to suggest that up to 40% of our wage budget is on non playing staff and this would lead to a higher than average non playing wage bill. I would say most teams have the same amount of "hangers on", I don't think we have significantly more than when we were at Raynesway
