EastKentRam
All of them have been ****, with our top two clubs having been bossed by supposed lesser clubs. Makes the 'best league in the world' argument look ridiculous now. Just spent some time reading up on the Bundesliga, it makes f*cking depressing reading seeing how well run that league is, the Germans have got it spot on. Emjlc02
I wouldnt say one bad season in Europe means the league isnt still one of the best. I think though the top teams are weaker now than they have been for a long time with Man City being a new side up there and Man U intergrating quite a few younger players and chelsea needing to. MuespachRam
And....Arsenal, if they had anyone at all to come off the bench for them, would have gone through against Milan.
trekkie_ram
We've definitely had a disappointing year, but we were due a downer. we had something like 6 English champs league finalists in 5 years. We can't do it every year. We'll be back next year, and hopefully with Spurs instead of Chelsea. This will give Chelsea a year to reflect and rebuild. EastKentRam
Think this is as poor as Chelsea and United have been at the back in a long time. I do find it strange how bad City have done in Europe considering the squad they've got. Admittedly they had a tough group in the Champions League, but even at home they werent convincing. Duracell
I agree with ejm, how does one bad season mean it's no longer the best league? The best La Liga clubs are better than the best Premier League clubs, and some of the top Bundesliga clubs are coming up now too, but the quality throughout the Prem is pretty incredible. I think that's part of the reason why English clubs do well in Europe - in the Premier League, every single game is a test. It's going to be interesting in the future to see how the leagues elsewhere develop. A lot of the Brazillian national football team plays in the domestic league now, and the league continues to get richer. Russia continues to strengthen. The MLS is above conference standard. In 20 years time, the World Club Championship might actually begin to mean something. Football wealth is being shared out far more than it used to be. Asanovic
City's first season in the Champions League - big learning curve, I'd be willing to bet they go alot further next season. United have been dogged by injuries all season. They nearly always get to the knockout stages, and I bet they will again next year. This season is the exception rather than the rule, in my opinion. It may turn out to be just a blip for the English sides this season, but i do think the manor of defeats that they've suffered would be a concern (not that i care how they get on, if anything i want them to lose). City and Chelsea were both outplayed in Napoli, United got bossed by a 5th placed Spanish side on their own turf last night etc.

Not sure if the 'Premier League' has even been the best, depends what you determine as 'best' though and what you want from a league. Disagree about the quality throughout the Premier League though, apart from City, Swansea and Arsenal on their day, i'd say there's a lack of quality. Once again though, it's what you define as quality, i see it as passing, attacking football.
Deirdre_Barlow
United were taught a lesson last night. The spanish style is so much easier on the eye. I've been a bit embarrassed by the English performance in Europe this year but as has been said we've been very strong particularly in the last half decade. I sometimes wonder what United would be without Ferguson because I look through the squad and am not overawed by some of the names in it as I was in bygone days. With Giggs and Scholes edging towards retirement and a new dawn in management potentially it'll be interesting to see if United maintain their dominance. If anyone can do it, it'll be them but some testing times ahead nonetheless.
randombc
I think United won't get anything in the away leg, can see them just maintaining possession. Think City will beat Sporting though back at there place
Alpha
I don't like it when people think the Premier League is Arsenal, City, United, Chelsea, Spurs and Liverpool. What about the rest??! It's the most hyped league in the world. The most exciting probably due to the speed (which leads to mistakes, chances, big fouls) Man City are the best team we have here. Then possibly the horrid Merseyside club IMO. United are little better than the rest but have a great manager and vast experience to call on. In time I bet Man City will have a major impact in Europe. The rest all look shaky. Even in the REAL premier league against Fulham, Bolton, Blackburn,Wolves, WBA, Stoke, Villa, Wigan. There're 15 teams in the PL pundits forget about when lauding it about as the best league. Excitement isn't quality. The Championship has more exciting matches anyway. And it's faster. Money talks. Cisse
Even though Barca and Real Madrid are perhaps the best teams around at the time doesn't mean that Spanish league is the best. I think English football is far more interesting because the gap between the teams are not so wide like in Spain or Italy. If you look teams like Bologna and Siena from Italy or Real Betis and Granada from Spain and compare them against Sunderland and Aston Villa I think Premier can match those leagues pretty well. Also I believe Championship is a better league that any other second league in Europe.
CumbrianRam
Think some people here are getting mixed up between quality and excitment, anyone seen the poor defending between the top teams in the PL this year? Sky, BBC & ITV have done a pretty good of brianwashing peoples thoughts of the English/Spanish/Italian and German leagues.

At least Bundesliga is most entertaining. if not best. And next question should be best to who?

Once again though, it's what you define as quality, i see it as passing, attacking football. Did I say 'qaulity'? Cba to go back and see if I did, but there's more important things than quality in football - and that's goals. Swansea have bags more quality than Liverpool. They are not a better team. And they will not necessarily beat them. If you want to go by "quality" or whatever, then obviously La Liga or a South American league will be the best in the world. In terms of week in, week out excitement - you can not top the Bundesliga. Still think the Prem is the strongest league. A mid-table Prem side would destroy mid-table teams from any other league. -JW-
In terms of entertainment the premier league is probably number 1, with a lot of high scoring and dramtic games. Sadly, in terms of quality it is about number 4 or 5. The lack of defensive quality is the reason for all of the high scoring games.
blackNwhites
http://i39.tinypic.com/wgy6f Took a copy of the bundesliga just to show how competitive it is. Borrusia Dortmund have had quite a successful season, other than that it's very close. Koln for example have Podolski playing for them plus a very highly rated player in Wollscheid playing at centre back, on loan from Leverkusen. German football is a lot like English football, watched some games from time to time and it's just as exciting as the English leagues can be. Which btw, imo, iykwim, English football has dipped massively in attractiveness in the past couple of years.
EastKentRam
Who the feck are Monchengladbach? And they're third, a point behind Bayern, although i saw they were 7-0 up earlier today. That doesnt happen in the Prem.
