Fall out between Steve Davies and Clough?

It seems that Steve Davies has now fallen behind Conor Doyle in the pecking order.

I'm sure that there is more to this than just a fitness thing. I have a feeling that contract negotiations are playing their part - either the club are 'punishing' him for not signing one or (more likely) Davies is not putting in the effort because he's not being offered an extension.

I think you have too much time on your hands thinking up this nonsense. Davies is simply not ready, he has suffered a horrific imjury and it will take a couple more reserve/friendly games.

There is no negotiation to be done. The club have an option to extend for a year written in to his existing contract.

.

I thought that this year was the extension year, but having googled it seems that this year's extension also came with another potential year's extension.

In that case I'm sure that Davies is on his way in the summer - if bcnram will allow an opinion to be held that he/she disagrees with.

I took it (correctly) as just a daft bit of childishly suggesting that Davies is deliberately not trying & the nonsense you mentioned about the club punishing him. I hope you are not offended 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I don't think that it is nonsense - it may be incorrect, but there is some evidence to indicate that Davies's abscence from the matchday squad may not be entirely due to his fitness.

Nigel said for weeks that Davies was training fully - without heading the ball - and would be fit enough to return as soon as he got the OK from his surgeon. That was weeks ago and he has not even made the bench.

It may well be that Nigel just feels that other players are in better form and are sharper than Davies, but many players in the past have been left out in slightly confusing circumstances as a prelude to being moved on.

It is my opinion that Nigel values attitude above all other atributes and when Nigel has doubts about a player's attitude he will not allow them to be involved. Players with lesser ability appear to have been selected in preference to seemingly better players - but this is a natural consequence of attempting build and maintain a squad with a real team spirit. I wouldn't begin to criticise Nigel for such decisions - football is a team game and if an individual - no matter how talented - does not fit into that team then he should not be playing. However, I do believe that Nigel has enough history of freezing out players to make the Steve Davies situation, potentially, more interesting than just a fitness issue.

Someone posted on here that Davies played in a reserve game ( think it was against burton) and said he was reluctant to jump for headers,

Davies has to completely build up his heading again, from him having the ball in his hands and throwing it slightly above his head poss doing that 30/40 times is giving him a headache, then when he does that he will have to start with harder balls, and flicking the ball on, then to heading in crosses, goal kicks and kicks out of keepers hands,... After that he has to challenge for headers,

We have to remember, he is a 23 year old man with a wife and child, he nearly died heading the ball, do I'm sure that's in the back of his mind every time Shaun barker, or shackell or anyone else goes near him in training so pulls out the challenge, clough possibly sees this, all we see is the doctor has said he no longer needs his head mask, even though they said he would wear it for a year,

So maybe ( though possibly far fetched) that's the reason he isn't playing for the first team.

May not be a fall out, may just be psychological to Steve Davies
