Fell asleep during last years ht show but seeing it was the Black Eyed Peas can't say I was too fussed. But I love THAT Fergie 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wub' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
RamOfKansas
So I'm just doing a comparison here - the Packers are the current superbowl champs at the mo (I know cos Dav follows them) and their stadium holds 73 odd k. How many does Old Trafford hold? Just over 75k? I thought the packers ground would be much bigger for some reason. What's the biggest football stadium in the states then and what's the capacity? The Packers though are in a very small market. Green Bay isn't that big of a town. But the biggest NFL stadium stadium can hold 111,000 at standing room only capacity. 80,000 seated. Most are between 60,000 to 85,000. However college football is a whole different animal, there are 6 100,000+ stadiums at the Division 1 level. My team's own stadium, Bill Snyder Family Stadium is probably comparable to Pride Park in it's size in relation to others at 52,500 capacity. You have to remember there are fewer football games in our footbal than English footy every year. But yes I mean sure ya'll can rave for your organic atmosphere all you want and I have no problem with that. But American sporting culture(at least at the collegiate level) is almost all about the pagentry and is really an all day event, nothing to really compare to it in the world. Not to say it's better, but I'd rather America be different than like the rest of the world myself. Here is Bill Snyder Family Stadium btw(named after our coach when he retired, then he returned so now he's playing in a stadium named after him. It's strange) http://mobi-wall.brothersoft.com/files/320240/b/12823230936625 Also for kicks here's a link to a recent facilities improvement we're doing for the press box, I'm estatic about it. You can see the current, fairly small one there now and we're build a freaking castle to replace it. SillyBilly
Thats not a stadium. I remember the school photographer rocking up with one of them out the back of a Ford Transit so we could all get in the photo.

ladyram
If you look closely, our press box seems half inspired by Windsor Castle. It wouldn't surprise me for a minute if this was the case ROK, Windsor is magnificent - and having read the "why build" section (amongst others) on your site - it will definately make "a strong first impression" on all who visit it. I don't think we've got anything that looks like that at a stadium over here ( I could be wrong though) but I think the nearest we came was the twin towers at Wembley. They were pulled down in 2003 to make way for the new build. It's a great shame that architecture was wiped, the towers were very popular. ladyram
Just to add - the guy who designed the Wembley towers also designed DCFC's new ground which was initially to be built prior to PP but never took off. ladyram
I never knew that. That ground looks amazing. (there's a link to the plans somewhere on that page.) I didn't Smythy until Dav told me. The stadium would have had swimming pools, a cinema for 700, badminton courts, restaurants...all sorts of things. It would certainly have been impressive wouldn't it? Smyth_18
And that was back in '45. 70,000 capacity. God, where would we be now if we was there. We definately wouldn't be worried about atmosphere.

mozza
Strange that the backgound of the photo main page is that of Alan Biley.. Wonder how much that would have cost to build , and if we'd still be there now ?
