John Terry - turning circle of a tanker, wannabe Glory Boy

Yaya Toure - just don't rate him at all, controversial maybe

Cech - very very ordinary keeper. Also Pepe Reina.

Steven Gerrard - nowhere near as good as people think. Positionally dreadful, all Hollywood balls & Roy of the Rovers stuff. Scholes was twice the player Gerrard is.

James Milner, Joleon Lescott & Gareth Barry - utterly utterly average. Sad to think those 3 cost circa £70 million

For those slating Beckham, I think you're confusing celebrity & football. I'm not sure anyone, even within the game would hold him up as an all time great. But technically he is/was fantastic & that delivery of his was lethal - a very good player in an average England team, a vital cog in a fantastic Manu team

what better englishman was better than scholes at that time?

the quote from zidane says it all, if you're getting that sort of recognition from zidane it's not even worth discussing.

pele said mcmananaman was world class at one point, i've never seen it from scholes imo i see gerrards name banded about in this thread but i would see him as a better version of scholes, always thought he was over-rated because he scores goals from outside the box, assists aren't overally impressive and his version of a tackle is a kick, could be said about both players in the above.

and like bergkamp who had flashes of brilliance, but his reputation was the worlds best at one point and i just never thought he was that good, there were a good number of better strikers better in the prem and in the world, in my opinion.

Pele!!!, wtf has he got to do with it? he says whatever people want to hear - he said Nicky Butt and El Hadj diouf were amongst the best in the world and that whatever country he is in could win/host the world cup - if he had commented on scholes I would not have posted it but Zidane is different, he had no reason to say it and he actually played against him which gives him a better perspective than any of us - especially as there were very few players on the planet that appeared to cause him problems. There are a load more quote I could use as well.

To be honest, and I know it is only opinion, I cannot see how anyone could claim Bergkamp and Scholes are overrated, if anything it is the other way around. Ferguson called Scholes "a player of a lifetime" and whatever you may think of SAF he has an eye for a player.

As for Dennis, I just c&p'd this of wiki (based on my previous comments feel free to ignore the bit about Pele's opinion)
