I really need to sort myself out in the new year.

Basically, I'm a big bloke that is totally out of proportion. I have normal/slender(ish) legs but I pack all my weight on my top half. I'm 17 stone at the moment. My ideal weight is around 14.5-15 stone.

The problem lies in the fact that when I do go to the gym (and I do put the effort in when i sign up), I only can be arsed to work my top half so I lose the excess weight, bulk up and then still look out of proportion. When I've worked my lower half in the past I've just never seen any results. I know I'm not the only one as down the gym you see massive blokes effectively on stilts. Anyone recommend some kind of leg training routine?

Running, cycling, cross trainer, specifically designed leg weights (lie on ones back and push with legs).

Just ask your local gym supervisor.

I recommend getting a bike and getting to and from work everyday (if it's not to far) to help lose the weight and work on your legs. I'm the other way around, got superb legs but a boys body.

I've always been sceptical of doing loads of cardio such as running and cycling when trying to build muscle mass (the intention for my lower body). I'll actually give bike riding a go if its worked for you? Work would be too far but considering I enjoy riding an hour or so in the evening would be a good start. Have to dust down my old bike mind.

Both mate. I worked out I was eating about 3500-4000 calories a day and now I'm down to about 2500. I'm moving back home full time soon so it'll help I get proper meals instead of the crap I cook. I've signed up to the Gym and am doing cardio 3 times a week and then weights 1 day a week just to maintain a balance. I've cut out the 2-3 cans of beer a night and just have 1 now allowing myself friday and saturday to have a few more. To be fair I'm really enjoying it, I knew it needed to change.

Funnily enough my weight gain started with an injury. I did my back in doing weights and took about a month before it felt right; though I'd lost the motivation after I fell out the routine. Hope you're back in action soon marathon man.

Canna see the point in just having one pint a night, may as well not bother. I've stopped drinking from Sunday to Thursday, and have some Friday sat.

Tis a bit bust and boom though, I noticed that I don't need as much to get pissed now either.

Cut out all bread as well for the last 3 weeks too, and feel loads better and also lost my bloated feeling.

To be honest, there isn't much point but its just the ritual for me, I don't feel like I've clocked off till I've opened a can and am sat watching the box, probably sad but thats the way it is. Its also a reflection on the British attiude towards drink where we view one drink as a pointless exercise, as if the aim is to get off yer tits. I've often thought this on the odd time I've been over to the US when you're out socialising and you find they're quite happy to sit there all night with one or two, fecking waste of a bar stool!
