We'd all have different best 11's, Nige will have his best 11 like most managers have but, in reality, the modern game has evolved to a best squad of 18 or so.

During our playoff campaign under George Burley we only used 24 players.. 7 of those playing less than 10 games..

Alot of them being young in Bolder, Mills, Tudgay, Huddlestone, Jackson, Grant, Camp, Boertein, Doyle, Holmes.. We basically had a solid set of 15-18 players with the rest made up of youth..

We only had Chris Makin on loan (for around 15 games) and were lucky that we didn't suffer any injuries.. Most of our injuries to key players like Idiakez and Rasiak happened at the end of the season hence missing Preston away in the playoffs.. But during the season everyone kept in shape.

When was the last time we only used 24 players or less during a season? This was the last time when we had a small squad but full of quality and reliable backup players.. The best teams that work to a budget are the ones that have small but reliable squads..

We've had a mountain of injuries in the past few years and that's partly because of buying njury prone players.. There isn't much difference between the best teams and the rest in this league, anyone can beat anyone with a full strength 11 but where teams tend to excell is those that don't suffer from many injuries but more importantly when they do they can be replaced with adequate cover..

This season for instance when losing our best striker he's been replaced with a makeshift loan or a 15 year old.. When problems at fullback either a midfielder has gone there or another loan player.. A loss in midfield means a shift in formation. That's not the signs of having a good squad unit.. We're still a long way away from that.
