Smyth_18
Got back yesterday from 4 days in hospital and this is all that happened. Monday morning I woke up ready for a normal day at work, I put on a few extra layers and off I went on my scooter. I got to awsworth ( I work in sandiacre.) this is where I hit black ice, although I don't remember it I skidded onto the other side of the road and hit a car which dragged me up the street a short while with my leg stuck underneath. Turns out I was airlifted to the QMC. I have 6 fractures in my spine and I also had a bleed on the brain. I started walking very slowly on Wednesday and improving every day. As much as people knock it the nhs were brilliant. (with the odd mistake). I'm 20 years old and very lucky to be alive! Ps. Just a quick question. Do I have a hope in claiming compo as the road was ungritted and I was only going 20mph. Cheers guys. Up the rams.
mcsilks
WOW. That's quite some story there Smyth. Things like this will make you evaluate life and your still only a young lad. Really do wish you the most speedy recovery my friend 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
ladyram
If it's the same accident, I heard about this on RD news. Bad, bad luck there Smyth - a scooter is never going to be a match for black ice, I don't think anything is, only grit! My eldest (though now he's got a car) still gets his motorbike out now and again. It frightens me silly (nowt I can do I know) but I fret more when road surfaces are dodgy. I'm glad you're making a recovery!! If I were you, I'd seek legal advice on any claim, go to an injury lawyer specialist. The thing that puzzled me about all the reports of black ice, a frost had been forecast the day before and I've heard it mentioned quite a few times on RD that Derbyshire is ready with piles of grit - so why weren't the gritters out the night before? james_ram
Sorry to hear about your injury & I'm glad to hear your recovering though 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> There would be plenty of injury lawyers willing to take the case on, just watch the adverts today and i'm sure you''ll find about 10 different law firms. Ambitious
Sorry to hear that mate, Sounds horrific! Hope you have a speedy recovery, I have a mate who's scooter also skidded and he ended up with a triple compound fracture in his leg, was off work for best part of a year! Just horrible, horrible luck.. but I suppose everything is. Hopefully you'll be in for some good fortune now.

Pearl Ram
All the best for a speedy recovery mate, I don't suppose your employers are going to look after you moneywise so certainly pursue the legal route and good luck with that, hey, hope you get thousands,,,you can get rid of the scooter and get a car, it'll make your mam feel better. (I know, I know, you can still have an accident in a car but there will be a lot less chance of being dragged up a street by your leg by the other motor)

Not just for the cold but they could have stopped your injuries from being much worse. Be sure to replace your helmet now though. Last Christmas (although we gave it him before cos of the weather), we got our lad a helmet recommended by a police motorbike rider. Can't remember what the model was called, all I know is it was a good one, with top protection, has a moveable chinguard, oh, and it's graphite grey 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> I also got him one of them jackets with the reinforced back, ribs and elbows. Poor bugger, he looks like the bloody Michelin man when he goes anywhere! 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> but hey, a faster bike warrants more protection. (Sorry, I'm sounding like the nagging parent I am now) so please be careful but don't let it stop you from getting back on your bike, once you've recovered of course. On a brighter note, you might get some extra pressies at Christmas, as well as lots of TLC & R&R! Hope you have a great Christmas Get well soon xx
Boycie
You are lucky to be alive mate. Hope you get full fit soon. As for the compo, I'm sure a ring around the Ambulance chasers will give you your answer. Pick to best one for you though.

I put it down to that. I took the moral high ground. And the money would have gone in trust, and not in my pocket.

Smyth_18
Thanks for the support you lot. Boycie I'm disappointed you didn't reply with puns. I've already done a few in hospital. Don't worry I won't be back on the bike, my cbt was running out on the 12th December so I was getting rid anyway. I've got a car just need to do my test. Ps. I should make a full recovery. Although it may take a while
