So pleased it went to Mark Cavendish , a guys who lives for his sport. He is just f'in awesome ....we do moan about sport in this country but we are blessed with some top top sport stars, we just don't give them the recognition they deserve which is down to the narrow minded coaverage thats broadcasted by Sky.

Sky Sports News is just a promo channel for all the sport it covers which is very very frustarting....

I voted for Darren Clark - he sure had it tough when his missis died didn't he? But to come back and win after 5 years out, takes bottle, hence me vote.

Cavendish is really at the top of his game though, well done that man. Good to see Sir Steve getting a lifetime acievment award for a proper lifetime's worth of work - and not for some 5 minute wonder job. Good on him too.

Cook should have won it his achievements dwarf any of the others included in that year. Pretty poor year if losers like Khan and Murray were included.

Some debate must be whether you can include Cycling and certainly Golf as a sport, if so must be at the low end of the spectrum in awards such as these and performance should be extra-special to be included, neither Cavendish nor Clarke did enough, Cavendish did not win Tour de France, Clarke won one tournament if he had won more then fair enough.

Cook was top man in the away ashes win the biggest British sport achievement since the Rugby World Cup win, he also got a stack of runs this summer.

I'd put cycling above cricket as a sport any day of the week (don't all shout at me at once cricket fans) but anything that needs as much endurance as cycling does - well, if that isn't a sport I don't know what is. The Tour De France is a prime example of this.

I kind of agree with you (it's a shock, I know 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' /> ) about golf - but what Clark went through couldn't have been an easy task, so for that I think he deserved a vote or 2.

Sometimes I think it's not all about the results but the attitude they have towards it as a whole.

I thought all cyclists did every 'legal' sport enhancing drug / treatment imaginable, including blood transfusions and other crap that could turn Butterbean into a competent cyclist.

My mate is a top amatuer tri-athelete, and he is constantly telling me what pro's get away with.

Anybody who says that riding a bike is a tougher sporting challenge than playing cricket well I will say no more on that. The Tour de France is a massive endurance (not skill)challenge but Cycling has been tainted by drugs possibly even more than weight-lifting and fair or not a question lurks with every competitor, such has been the lack of real commitment to sort the sport out.

To give a cyclist an award like this cheapens it even further and there have been some ridiculous decisions in the past Zara Phillips and a well past his best Ryan Giggs spring to mind.

How is it tough to stand fielding? Or lifting your arms up to catch? Or throwing a ball over your head? 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Behave.

As for drugs, they have no place in any sport but I doubt if Cavendish had been found guilty of any wrong doing, the Beeb wouldn't have given him the gong. Has anybody got any concrete proof of Cavendish being guilty of this?

Nobody has any concrete proof of this but Cycling has been so rife with cheats and it being the sport it is where endurance is all then right or wrong the suspicion is always there and Trekkie illustrates this graphically. Is it possible to win at Cycling without some assistance I personally don't think so. Will everybody at it be caught, unfortunately not, they are normally a step ahead.

Have you ever had a hard ball coming at your head even at village level bowlers can bowl at 70mph, it tests your courage I can tell you and bowling fast for 7 or 8 overs is tougher physically than football.
