Leeds Ram
It was an attempt by the church to wipe out paganism but to do it subtly and slowly, obviously orchestrated by Constantine the Great who was seeing his Roman empire dividing along religious grounds- not acceptable. To this day, Pagans still celebrate Yule (starting on Dec 25th), a winter festival very sacred to them. Catholic mass takes place on a SUNday (and not on the traditional saturday) to coincide with the pagan day of worship (Pagans worshipped mother nature and the sun). Most Pagan churches were infiltrated with christian works (and later vice versa) which is why the confusing symbology of the Roman catholic church takes a lifetime to understand. Truth is noone knows the month or the day Jesus was born or even the year. In summary, the church makes it all up as it goes along, that some people actually believe a word is beyond me. But, each to their own. absolutely, even church scholars admit the earliest jesus was born was the year 4 ad

BorneoRam
This Year will be cooking Full English Breakfast for 16 who will be coming to open presents etc and then dinner for 12 - to be honest it is not a big deal for them as Chinese New Year is the big one but I miss xmas in the UK so always do it as a tradition and so I get a break from Chinese food. Skype call home is always fun as it is normally at about 5pm for me so I am pretty sozzled and trying to make conversation with folks back home who have just got up. It is also the only day of the year I miss the weather 30 degrees at Christmas isn't right no matter how many years I spend out here

Weeheyheeeey - there's a novelty, a guy who does the cooking on Christmas Day! I might start a Christmas recipe thread, full of easy stuff that all you guys can do and earn some brownie points from your missis'! Or, something some of you younger guys can whip up and put a smile on your ma's face. Respect for any guy who has the first clue about how to cook a turkey without it going dry (and putting bacon on it doesn't count) 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />
