The Baseball Ground at its finest, early 70's.

As a 10 year old in 1970 it was a place of wonder, You can't describe the heartbeat of that stadium, the emotion, the sheer magnificence of watching the best team in England in such a tremendous theatre.

You can stick your showbiz, big name clubs, your armchair glory hunters, Derby at the Baseball Ground, thrashing so called "bigger" clubs was living the dream.

Its the reason why people of my generation have no fear or respect of Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, etc, etc, because, for at least 5 years, we were better than all of them.

Derby had a population of less than 200,000 back then....yet we dominated English football over cities like Leeds (600,000), Nottingham, (500,000), Manchester, London, ......even Leicester and Stoke-on-Trent had far larger populations than Derby. Yet the people of Derby supported their team in greater numbers than

Absolutely brilliant stuff !!

The team line-up playing against Everton is still my favourite line-up (incl Frank W) ...

The bit I like best is where the kids have to be moved from the side of the pitch, so we can take the corner.(against Everton)

teams coming out on their own and none of the handshaking nonsense; Roy Mac on the left wing at times; no goal music just crowd music; Alan Hinton - dead ball specialist (like father, like son?); terraces; Match of the Day - no 'experts' and covering all divisions; Peter Daniel - head it and kick it; goalies without gloves; Dave Mackay - we could do with his experience now; Willie Carlin - made that team play; no crowd segregation; grass still on the pitch - early season
