Andy Todd will not be offered a new contract as Derby County start to trim their squad for next season.

The 34-year-old defender’s current deal expires at the end of this season.

Derby paid Blackburn Rovers £750,000 for Todd in July 2007 and he has made 36 appearances.

His one goal, a diving header, came on his debut in a home draw against Portsmouth on the opening day of the 2007-8 Premier League season.

Todd did not feature for Derby under Paul Jewell in the first half of this season but returned with an impressive display in the Carling Cup semi-final first leg victory over Manchester United.

David Lowe, then youth team coach, took charge of the side and Nigel Clough, installed as Rams boss only hours earlier, watched from the directors’ box.

Todd kept his place for the next two games before injury struck.

He has made 12 appearances under Clough.

Australian club Perth Glory are showing an interest in Todd who has also played for Middlesbrough, Bolton and Charlton in his long career.

Derby will cut the size of their squad for next season and have decided not to offer 19-year-old striker Paris Simmons a new deal.

He has made one senior appearance and spent loan spells at Burton and Lincoln City.

Loanees Przemyslaw Kazmierczak, Nacer Barazite and Barry Bannan are set to return to their clubs.

Kazmierczak, brought in from Porto by Jewell, has played 27 games – 16 of them starts – but has started only once under Clough.

Barazite, who has been on loan from Arsenal, has made 36 appearances including 24 starts.

“He will go back initially and we will talk about it in the summer, if we are going to try and renew the loan or not – it will depend on who we get in,†said Clough.

"Nacer is very young, 18, and the only thing that worries us is his inconsistency.

"Next season, over 46 league games, we will need a bit more experience and consistency at this level.

“Nacer has natural ability. You forget he is 18 because he is a big lad and doesn’t look 18. To play this season in the Championship or part of it, he has done very well.â€Â

Midfielder Barry Bannan, signed on loan from Aston Villa by Clough, is a player Derby would like to take back next season.

“That will depend on Aston Villa,†said Clough.

"I was talking to Barry the other day and he has enjoyed it here, it is good experience for him.

"If they (Villa) bring new players in it might knock him further down the pecking order. He is certainly one we would like to get back.

"We are looking to bring in one or two young players on long loans next season to supplement the squad.

“Financially, it is better for us. You don’t commit yourself to a two or three-year contract with somebody and, most importantly, they are probably better quality than we would get anyway.â€Â

According to the reliable Tribalfootball site Todd has signed - can't find anything official though - so don't jump for joy just yet.

Perth Glory have announced the signing of former Derby and Blackburn Rovers defender Andy Todd.

Todd has agreed to a one-year deal and will arrive in Perth on Tuesday.

Todd has never been to Australia and Perth's beaches played a big role in luring him.

"It's a good signing for us because from a centre-half point of view he's got a lot of experience; he's played at a very high level and he's a leader," Glory coach Dave Mitchell said.

"Technically he's good, he's a very intelligent player that reads the game well and he's a good organiser."

Andy Todd has left Derby County to sign for A-League outfit Perth Glory on a one-year deal.

The defender has found first-team action hard to come by this season having started just seven Championship games for the Rams.

The 34-year-old even spent a short loan period in League One with Northampton before Christmas.

Despite his lack of playing time this term the centre-half will offer his new club plenty of Premier League experience with stints at Bolton, Charlton and Blackburn in the top flight.

"I'm delighted to be joining the club for next season," Todd said.

"It's a big move but one that I'm looking forward to. We've enjoyed the city and I think it presents a great lifestyle move as well as an exciting football challenge.
