Hillsborough Debate

I've just played MP Clive Betts' emotive speech back. I didn't realise he was present at Hillsborough on that fateful day. I wasn't at all surprised to see him very nearly break down in tears as he recalled events. I wasn't there but it still makes me cry too.

Maybe now the families involved may get some answers and perhaps some closure - although I find it staggering that the decision to release these papers has took so long.

RIP the 96 xx

i'm not fixated on valerie

i just liked the way she handled jason

her hands almost subconciously stroking him as she looked directly into our eyes,

a soft smile playing on her lips

there was a delicacy and a softness as her fingers caressed him

it was as if the whole world stood still in that moment

she wanted him there and then

and he was happy to let her feel him

personally i'm surprised it was a kids programme

Live on BBC Parliament channel now. Brilliant debate, brings so many terrible memories back.....

I was at the circus- with animals and everything, My uncle took us in his XR2 with his new girlfriend Bev. I was just a kid at the time but it is so clear to me now hearing it playing out on the radio when we got back in the car. There is no way I would have remembered any of the above if it wasn't for what happened.

Tell the truth you pompous old farts- what gives you the right to decide if someone should know how a son, daughter, brother, sister, mum, dad, wife, husband, uncle or aunt of theirs came to die that day? Their own flesh and blood- Why is there even a debate you heartless b*stards, there never should have been and certainly not 22 years on! Shame on The Sun while we are at it too, shame that you are still publishing drivel after the lies you told and the people you hurt.

P.shilton your pain is felt by a lot of people, both with this tradegy, also with what happened in The Falklands, Northern Ireland and other great cover ups that people that are voted into power seem to think they have the right to cover up, hide facts or alter the truth. with reference to the scum, who was PM and who owns the scum? Anything similar happening now?

The real issue is, and should be remembered, is that for too many years MPs have been voted in and they think they have been given the power. HOWEVER both the MPs and US have forgotten or ignored the simple fact that WE are the power and MPs REPRESENT that power, and if they do not represent us, they are just like an employee and can be held accountable.

It would be very interesting to see if the good people of liverpool would welcome an open inquiry into the Heysel stadium disaster. That certain piece of history seems to have been conveniantly wiped from their memories.

agreed, this whiter than white ****** is sickening. everyone else is to blame from the police to politicians to newspapers and they even blame Shef Wed football club

heysel cost Derby a UEFA cup place, f##k 'em

Maybe the Police caused it by opening the gate, maybe The Sun lied, maybe there has been a cover up.

All these fact, maybe true, but what is certain is that the main contributing cause and factor was the thousands of scouse supporters turning up without tickets, that is stone blind.

The same thing could have happened when we where there, how many thousands of ticketless Man U fans were there .

Let's be realistic, if you think there was a coverup do you honestly believe the government would allow the documents to be released. Do you believe there would be a debate? and do you think if the motion passes and somehow the government missed the "coverup" do you think they would release the documents which would implicate the government at the time? I somehow doubt that the government would allow it or miss anything to do with the documents.

can anyone please tell me what is supposedly being covered up?

beginning to think this yet another waste of public money and news space......

Discussions and memos that apparently said at the time that the establishment were out to blame the fans, and deflect blame away from themselves.

Reasons why the stewarding arrangements outside the ground changed from the year before.

The poor state of the ground

The reasons behind not closing off the tunnel when the pen was full.

Delaying fans en-route to Sheffield - busses and cars were pulled over at the side of the road as late as 2pm I know because I saw it.

Poor signage in the ground.

Why have the terrace split into three pens with no escape routes.

Why were police pushing fans back in when it was obvious people were getting crushed?

I think I read somewhere that the police stewards on the gates at pitch side couldn't open the gates at first.

Why was the better supported team given the smallest end of the ground? The excuse about arrival into Sheffield isn't good enough.

Quite a few causal factors there that were not addressed by the original enquiry I think.
