Adelaide United are in hot pursuit of Derby County striker Mile Sterjovski.

The Reds are currently trying to bolster the squad that made it to both the Asian Champions League and A-League finals last season and a quality striker is on the agenda.

It is believed that the 29-year old will be released by the Rams next month and the Reds could be set to pounce.

Adelaide assistant Phil Stubbins was recently in the UK on a scouting mission and said he had an extensive list of potential targets.

“Obviously coming back from the UK I’ve got quite a lengthy list (of players),” Stubbins said.

“But we’ve got 10 to 15 on the list. And we’ve got to ask ‘can they do a job for you? Can we meet their demands?’”

Mitchell has returned to Western Australia after a scouting mission in the UK and has declared his interest in signing the 29-year-old, who he managed at Sydney.

"Since Nigel Clough has come in to Derby, he's re-assessed the squad and he's (Sterjovski) actually been told he's going to be released now," Mitchell said.

"So he's one that strikes us as available. Now his actual personal position has changed because Derby are letting him go, he's just got to think of where can he go and what can he do.

"He's got a few options and I think there's a couple of clubs (after him). Adelaide have shown interest in him as we have, so that's got to be borne out again," he added.

Perth Glory secure Derby County's Mile Sterjovski

04.06.09 | tribalfootball.com

Perth Glory has reportedly signed Socceroo star Mile Sterjovski from Derby County in a $700,000 a season deal.

Sterjovski, who just completed his second season at the Premier League club which is managed by Nigel Clough, will join another high profile Socceroo in Jason Culina in the move back to the Australian domestic competition after a lengthy period playing overseas.

The signing of Sterjovski as the marquee player for the 2009-2010 A-League season will be a huge boost for the Perth club, which has struggled in the first four seasons of the Australian competition.

Nothing official though - so don't jump for joy just yet !
