FunkyRam
We have had the best start for 100 odd years and Clough sounds after the Doncaster game like he has lost a relative! FFS man put a smile on it:D He mentions in the post match interview that we haven't been playing as well as last season. Well for one, half the bloody team wasn't there last season! I'm delighted at the start we have made and long may it continue, but it must be hard playing for a manager that has as much enthusiasm as a packet of peanuts. Thought id post to see if any of the fans feel the same... Link to comment https://dcfcfans.uk/topic/7311-miserable-clough/ Share on other sites
EdinburghRam
He sounds very proud to me, he just has a fairly dull voice. Link to comment https://dcfcfans.uk/topic/7311-miserable-clough/#findComment-199073 Share on other sites
Luke
He just doesnt want to seem like he is getting carried away, look at last November. StaffsRam
No, not really. I listened to the Clough interview after the game and he sounded like he was bursting with pride. He's right in that we're not playing as attractive football as last season, but he tempered that by saying that we're getting the results. Over the past couple of weeks Clough's probably the happiest that I've ever seen him at Derby. FunkyRam
Don't get me wrong I like Clough, but cant help but think if we had a more enthusiastic manager it could be the difference between a mid table finish and a Play Off position. uttoxram75
I think its a part of his job that he doesn't particularly enjoy doing. He sees it as a necessary evil - say what you've got to say, quickly as possible, get your after match duties finished then home to mow the lawn, go to Nando's for tea and spend some time with the kids. He is very similar to Arthur Cox and Jim Smith in his interviews....a bit dour and serious. He's an ordinary bloke doing an extraordinary job. We've had enough comedians over the years.... rams71
i suspect all the after match interviews for tv,radio etc can be a real ball-ache for some managers especially if their team has lost. maybe NC doesn't feel comfortable doing interviews and only does them cos he has to. StaffsRam
The other thing is, we've been here before, last year when we were up to 4th, and he knows what happened afterwards, so no harm in downplaying expectations. davenportram
Considering how much he was jumping about when we scored our second and third on Saturday I think he was pretty happy He has a dull monotone voice and would probably sound bored if ge was telling us he had won the Eromillions and bought the club. Don't forget he has to manage the team, and part if that us tempering expectations on them from the fans. They are growing anyway, and internally they will all be growing within the squad and management team. NothernRam
Struggling to find summat to moan about atm................ It's easy one. Where is the promised striker? As soon as Davies gets injured we are in the mess. Tyson is utter proper **** and always injured. Ball will never be given a proper chance untill Clough is here. Ward, Robinson, Maguire, Doyle, Cole and Cywka aren't strikers. Clough out, Board out. Move on. EdinburghRam
Why? Are you one of those that think will be in a relegation scrap? Pmsl Of course not, I just think that the tone of Clough's voice will not affect our season in the slightest, let alone be the difference between mid table and the play-offs. Alph
He's not big on journalists and media is he? I've read twice from journalists that he can be difficult to interview. That he's not shy, just that he doesn't really feel the need to tell journalists much at all. One interviewer (maybe for the Daily Mail? last year) said that before he met Clough he was told that Nigel isn't very friendly to journalists and that he wont be best pleased if you start making comparisons with his Father or if you start asking irrelevant questions about Brian. I'm sure there was a quote in there along the lines of "he doesn't really like Journalists" That's what i've read anyway. He's a quiet bloke seems our Nigel. Not timid. Quiet. He is a football manager. He manages the football. Then he goes home. He doesn't come across as the sort who enjoys any of the rest that comes with it. Not like Holloway who loves a chance to get his 'personality' across. Or Billy, who wants everyone to know what a good job he's doing. I don't think Nigel really cares what anyone who doesn't know him makes of him. Like in Gladiator. "I do not entertain!" I doubt he'll smile 4 games in. Or even 24. 44 he might smile if we're still top. Link to comment https://dcfcfans.uk/topic/7311-miserable-clough/#findComment-199099 Share on other sites
rsmini
You must be struggling to find something to moan about if all you have is Nigels voice and looks. The guy is at work, how do you look and sound at work ? Perfect of course And well said Alpha. VulcanRam
If we're losing it's easy to say "how can he inspire and motivate, he's got no charisma"; if we're winning it's easy to say "it doesn't matter". I'll admit there were times last season during the bad run, esp afer half time when we never seemed to come out fired up, I wondered to myself whether he had the personality to motivate the side. But this season, with the same voice and personality, we're starting second halves on fire. So the conclusion is..........it's all b0llox Link to comment https://dcfcfans.uk/topic/7311-miserable-clough/#findComment-199102 Share on other sites
FunkyRam
yeah I guess is it a bit of a moan.... I haven't been able to do it for a while after all.
